Potential programming
Our efforts at the SDFCF continue to propose a variety of incentives to draw outside production while continuing to build local production
- A one-stop-shop permitting location customized for each production, and offering
- All necessary agencies trusting the film commission to sign-off on the majority of issues and a round-table meeting to sign off on major issues
- Ensuring the local governmental agencies are fully indemnified
- A clear understanding of the risk-verses-reward by government agencies
- A clear understanding and appreciation by production for lack-of (free permits) or reduced cost-of fees (police and fire support)
- Support of the local and student filming population
- Free parking for meetings with comfortable and large enough conference space for governmental round-table meetings and local industry mixers
- Neighborhood notification of shooting schedule
- Working with local advertising companies, production companies and corporations to keep film production local
- Marketing to bring outside filming to the San Diego region
- Social media continually announcing the benefits of filming in San Diego
- Create an open to the public filming museum featuring as much memorabilia of San Diego filming history
- Rebate incentives for hiring more than 75% local crew for commercials up to $2000 in governmental fees (police, fire, etc.)
Necessary services allow both local and outside production to feel comfortable. Once all possible issues from each government agency are addressed, a permit will be issued, fees will be minimal, and production may move forward. By being a one-stop-shop throughout the County our competitor cities/regions will find it hard to match our service. A one-stop-shop, which can completely review the shooting script allows for up sales on San Diego locations. Many regions like San Diego, with multiple city jurisdictions, do not offer one-stop-shop permits. Should a producer wish to shoot in one city one day and another city another day, they need to pull permits from each local jurisdiction. The San Diego Film Commission aims to pull all cities and county services into one location, allowing for comprehensive approval. This saves the cities and producers money and time.
