Our Programs

The Foundation supports the efforts of the Film Commission not funded by the government, providing services and resources to San Diego freelancers, future filmmakers and citizens via multiple programs.

Internships:

The Foundation has been instrumental in mentoring and supporting the SDFC student film intern program. As the SDFC suffers from the government cuts in funding the student film program has suffered and looks to the Foundation for support. The Foundation pays for student parking, mileage when the students scout and do other related activities to expand their knowledge and experience in film production. Students learn to break down scripts, scout locations, prepare packages to send to producers and location managers including maps, photos, information about hotels, crews and other needs. Students learn to check parking on location, visit sets, attend the round table meetings which are the permit process for film production. Without the Foundation assistance, these students from SDSU, City College and UCSD would not be offered this invaluable opportunity.

Student Film Support:

Student filmmakers are essential to grow the industry of filmmaking in San Diego. The Foundation is committed to offering support of student filmmakers. Our support guarantees both the filmmakers and the San Diego region are safe.

Industry Networking:

Yearly, the SDFC produces an industry guide and the Foundation sponsors a mixer for the release. Industry members of all skills and techniques turn out to get their copy. Special occasions, such as the Hollywood Reporter, San Diego Edition also called for a mixer at its release.
The Foundation takes every opportunity to let creative talent mix whether above or below the line.

Work force training/education:

To support our area of workforce training, the Foundation granted funds to the Commission in the form of pilot "Commercial" Incentives Program. Starting in July 2009, the Foundation sponsored the first incentive program which reimburses film costs incurred by a qualified film production company in filming a television commercial in the City of San Diego, Port of San Diego, and/or unincorporated areas of San Diego County. Under this pilot program, eligible film costs incurred after July 1, 2009 may be reimbursed. the San Diego Film Commission will provide a production assistant that will be drawn from a list of qualified film interns and student filmmakers. This production assistant will receive a credit as having worked on the production (listed on the official crew list) as well as on the job experience. To learn if your project is eligible, contact the San Diego Film Commission.
